• Municipal Solid Waste ("MSW") is composed of approximately 65% biomass
• Governments have banned open field and pit burning, beehive burners, and placed restrictions on hog-fuel burners
• Alternative forms of disposal such as burying or cogeneration are inefficient and environmentally damaging

• Biosolids (human and animal sewage) quantities increasing with growing populations but limited disposal solutions
• All existing disposal methods are:
  • costly (economically inefficient)
  • labor-intensive
  • hazardous
  • subject to government restrictions and outright bans
